A large deal of the organisation of the Eurovision Song Contest is in good hands of the Host Broadcaster of the event. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) supports the Host Broadcaster and is the link with the participating EBU Member Broadcasters. As initator of the Eurovision Song Contest, the EBU is also taking care of brand management, international marketing activities, general communications, accreditation and the official website.
EBU is the world’s foremost alliance of public service media organisations, with Members in 56 countries in Europe and beyond. Its mission is to defend the interests of public service media (PSM) and to promote their indispensible contribution to modern society.
It is the point of reference for industry knowledge and expertise. The EBU operates EUROVISION, the media industry’s premier distributor and producer of top quality live sport and news, as well as entertainment, culture and music content. The EUROVISION satellite and fibre network is the largest and most reliable in the world directly plugged in to PSM everywhere.
EUROVISION coordinated 44 television co-productions over the past 12 months, including factual, drama, animation and entertainment genres. The spectacular, the Eurovision Song Contest, has the highest audience figures for an annual live entertainment event in the world – up to 125 million viewers leading to the final.

PEOPLE
From the side of EBU/EUROVISION there are several people involved with organising Europe’s favourite TV show. They take care of the general supervision of the contest and among other things also of the website, communication, social media, accreditation and communication with the Members.
Jon Ola Sand: The Norwegian Jon Ola Sand is the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest. He has more than 15 years’ experience in major productions and co-productions at Norwegian public broadcaster NRK and TV2 Norway as well as independent production companies. He is also a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which hands out the EMMY Awards every year. He has produced or directed a variety of programmes, such as the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, the Norwegian Film Awards and the Norwegian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Melodi Grand Prix. The Executive Supervisor of Europe’s favourite TV-show has been Head of Delegation at the contest for Norway from 1998 to 2005. Since then, he has been commissioning editor at NRK. He was also the Executive Producer of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. Sand leads the team of Project Managers who are dealing with other productions at the EBU Television Department as well.
Sietse Bakker: Dutchman Sietse Bakker is the Event Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest at the European Broadcasting Union. In 2000, he founded the website esctoday.com, which would become the most popular Eurovision Song Contest fan site on the internet. In 2006, he was asked to join the EBU to produce the websites of the Eurovision events at the Interactive Unit. In 2007, he became responsible of all external communications of the three Eurovision Family events. As of the 1st of January 2011, he’s at his current position.
Stephanie Caflisch: Stephanie Caflisch is the Executive Assistant of the Eurovision Song Contest and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She’s been involved with the contest for years but is in her current position since 2011.
Andreas Schmitz Mensger: The German Andreas Schmitz Mensger has been involved with the Eurovision Song Contest from several different sides – within a delegation, from the side of the Host Broadcaster and now is the security advisor and Accreditation Manager on behalf of the EBU. He has years of experience in security related issues and is considered one of the foremost experts in his field.
Jarmo Siim: Estonian-born Jarmo Siim is the Communications Coordinator for the Eurovision Family of Events. He supports communications, public relations and New Media activities, and coordinates the efforts of the volunteer team that is backing the websites.
Wouter van Vliet: Wouter van Vliet, of Dutch origin, is the Project Developer of the Eurovision Family of Events As such, he is dealing with development of all Eurovision Family event websites and maintains the technical facilities behind them. Other people involved with the Eurovision Song Contest at the EBU are Frank Saelens (EBU Operations), Timothy Graig (EBU Operations) and Laetitia Gonnet (EBU Legal Department).
